Silencer History, Technology, and Testing

This 2-day class is presented with instructor Dr. Philip H. Dater of Antares Technologies. Dr. Dater has over 50 years experience in suppressor design and testing and is currently best known for his role as Suppressor designer for Gemini Technologies. This course covers the history of sound suppressors, different models, designs, and manufacturers, as well as what is available today. The course is heavy on the technology of sound and hearing protection, as well as the science of sound suppression in firearms. One day of live fire testing at the range with hundreds of suppressed firearms available to the students for choice of testing- all from the Long Mountain Outfitters Working Reference Collection. All class participants will leave with a thorough knowledge of sound suppression in firearms and how to test these systems thoroughly, fairly, and properly. Student leaves the course with a Technicians Completion Certificate rated for two years, and technical and general operator manuals and data to ensure continued reference material for later use.
